Yeah , If someone use Windows Vista with these software , then performance will increase instead of decreasing.

Dear god. McAfee can take a fast PC and make it into slag. The Updates come at midday, and if your computer dosent wake up, and do and update, and a scan, after lunch @ work, and when you get home can take from 45 mins to 2 Hrs +.
I have since switched to Avira, Spybot, and AdAdware. cut my boot/unhib times to minues.

Very nice, thanks a lot!
My PC tech teacher just gave this link to me and I've recently removed Norton and McAfee(Yes, I had both--don't ask) and a multitude of other programs that bogged stuff down.
From PC's for Dummies(and my teachers):
Replace McAfee and Norton with:
Spyware Blaster and AVG anti-virus free edition
(they're both free and they make a nice couple).
and use
Ccleaner(free)
to blow out unneeded processes, crap files, and other junk that builds up in your PC.

Thanks for the article. It shines a light on what many of us have known or suspected for some time.
As far as I'm concerned, any software which installs its own "Quick Launcher" or "Auto-Updater" without asking is a Virus.
Real Player
,
QuickTime
and
Acrobat quick-launch
are all examples of the above.
Other things to test:
Microsoft Windows Defender, McAfee VirusScan 8.0i Enterprise, AT&T Yahoo Security, Tea Timer (from SpyBot S&D), WinZip, Roxio Drag-to-Disk.

I find the Tea Timer (from SpyBot S&D) from Spybot to be one of the most useful anti malware applications I have. If ANYTHING in the registry is changed I can allow or disable the change

It seems to me that Avast anti-virus slows the system down even more than McAfee
