I've found endless problems with Vista, especially for Home users. They bring in new systems they've brought with OEM copies installed and it just doesn't do what it should. We've started installing retail version's of vista to make sure the user gets what they want. XP was fantastic in OEM or Retail.

luckily i found a good stockist at www.mpdisc.co.uk

My sister has a 64bit laptop with XP media centre... I'm looking to upgrade her to Vista Home Premium for xmas [odd, I know, but it's what she wants]... do I need specifically the Upgrade edition of Vista or could I get away with an OEM or Retail?
Many Thanks

BTW just to let u guys know, the oem can be transfered to another computer, and simply requires a reactivation, not a repurchase. Phone ms and let them know its for the same machine and not a new pc and they will issue areactivation for you. So OEM all the way meladdos ;)

Does this really work all the time? I've gotten away with it once before with XP, so you say that it's okay if I get a new mobo? Fantastic!

One thing is for sure,
those who use the illegal version, who stop the activationtimer with a crack, i have bad news,
even if you get a fresh crack, it'll work fine for maybe a week, maybe longer, but i don't think it'll work longer than two weeks, then your irritating counter, will go on like ms wants it to do.
You better face it, they will uncrack vista, and they're not going to slow down, believe me, eventually you will be FORCED to buy it anyway.
As for the question oem vs retail, i advise to buy the oem-version, i will buy it, because i know i won't change things (or not much at leats) to my comp, so i don't have to be afraid off the 'i have a new motherboard, but can you please reactivate my oem-version?'-stuff.
For those who ARE going to change a lot, i advise to take the retail-version, just to be safe.

Nice one Sam! Why not get someone to steal a car for you and give them a few dollars? Arsewipe.

Greetings.... I installed Vista Ultimate OEM (From a sealed plastic box) on a clean hard drive after building my own computer - BUT the windows activation routine (on line) does not accept the license number! Would this be because the oem preinstallation kit (OPK) was not used?
