Thanks for the article! I'm tryng to replicate built in drive to a bigger HDD in the USB enclosure - and once it boots from the flashdrive - Ghost stops to recognize bigger HDD..!
However Ghost is able to see it while booted under Vista, but then it's unable to exclusively lock boot drive ...
soon I'll figure out

been a long search. have yet to get the new (old) x40 to get booting but I feel so much better to know that there will be a way if I keep at it. started with pxe:61(pixie) the seller said the computer had a dead pixel, (how wrong is that!) but the hard drive is starting and then stopping "no operating system". Disabled the lan boot option and the pixie dissapeared (so its not the hard drive.) but I miss dos machines (sob sob) they always had some life in them. I will get back and tell you if the flash stick works.

I can't believe how difficult it is to manage a simple flash drive. None of the utils I found allows to format a partitioned flash drive with boot files, they only handle the entire drive. I hardly managed to partition it with xp install cd because disk management also does not allow me to delete or create partitions in it. I just want to make 2 partitions, one bootable with fat32 and the other ntfs. Is there a solution to this?

Very useful and straight forward advice that really works like a dream!
After you make the bootable USB stick as instructed, you can load it with the ghost image of your partition(s).
Then use the USB stick as a source of boot image to make a bootable DVD with NERO. This is very useful if your BIOS does not give you the option to boot from the USB stick, and you want to have a recovery DVD loaded with the images of your partitions. This recovery DVD can restore your XP Windows with all the programs installed in about 5 minutes, instead of wasting several hours.
You can also use this recovery DVD in an external DVD drive connected to a USB port of your (mini)notebook, which, in my case, was the only way to access my hard drive and restore the OS.
