Well definitely if one is too fond of dragging his ass with Windows, I have no objections :) The article was written to make a normal user understand why Linux is better than Windows

But perhaps you did not like the flavor. Nevermind though. Most people agree to me so why care.

"a normal user"? A geek, maybe. Normal users don't want to spend time learning how to use a terminal and they don't care if they can edit the source. That's geek territory. And you've already heard from Oli how two of your points (viruses and proprietary software) are flat-out wrong; why should Stegosaurus repeat those points if you're going to effectively say "La la la, I can't hear you".

Open source is a good thing for "normal users", but not for the reasons you provide. It provides assurance to normal users that no viruses or spyware is hiding in the open-source product, because if there was, the geeks would be all over them for it.

Cross me and be thagomized.

Firstly, I'm not dragging my ass in Windows. I prefixed the whole article with:
I use Linux as my desktop operating system but these reasons are just amazingly flawed.

Most people agree to me so why care.
That's my entire point. People are agreeing with something that is factually, 100% incorrect. I think more people loving Linux is a great thing but lying in order to convert is completely wrong and it just breeds misguided fanaticism...

Secondly if I were some idiot fanboy :P I don't think 1300 readers would be interested in reading what I say

I wonder if he's reading the Digg thread... Not many people agree with him there.

The crazy thing is the feedback on his blog post is, as he says, almost completely positive. I'm not sure what's sadder: all the people agreeing with him or him citing his 1300 subscribers as some sort of empirical truth.

I am 14 years old, and I use Ubuntu 7.10. some argue that using a terminal is annoying and geeky, but you don't even NEED to use it 99% of the time. It just speeds things up, that is, if you know how to use it. I used Windows for 9 years growing up, and I hated how it was hard as hell to use at times. It got too many viruses, and we were constantly in need of upgrade. You don't really have to worry about that crap with Linux. It was like a freaking miracle when the local programmer/hacker taught us about Linux, and we converted to it. His website is www.Summersault.com and he almost never uses Windows. It doesn't matter what age, or brain capacity you have, Linux is just all around good and easy to use.

Kudos! I've grown up with both UNIX and Windows and you know what? I think you are absolutely right! Many overzealous linux adopters try to show off their "skillz" in "f*ckin' windoze" because they want to be different. People who have truly understood the hardship programmers have to go through writing operating systems will apprepriate both platforms easily and not talk crap and flame around!
